This essay will be about the poem “An examination of her body after death” By Glen Colquhoun.The two main ideas are denial and remembrance. The two language features which are the use of negatives and metaphors helped me to understand the main ideas very well.

 
One important idea used in the poem an examination is denial. The author of each verse uses a denying statment."you are not her shoulder". The use of negative language features help show the denial . He is angry and fustrated at the loss of his friend who he is now looking at in a morgue.He uses the word "nor" is used in a lot of quotes, “You are not face”. He doesn't want to believe that his friend is dead. This helps the reader to understand the main idea of denial.


Another main idea in this poem is remembrance.The author is relating to his friend who has just passed.The author uses the use of metaphors to help."I remember clearly the kick of the flounder escaping through the net".He remembers her thighs looking like fresh flounder. Not old flounder which looks all wrinkly.It gives the reader the vivid image of what her thighs used to and now look like.

In conclusion i think the author put in some good metaphors and negatives. This helped me to understand the main ideas of denial and remembrance.The author has well described what his friend meant to him.Overall I think that it was an interesting poem with a good use of negatives and metaphors.
